TEMPE MISSION PALMS HOTEL MAKES EVERY DAY EARTH DAY

TEMPE, Ariz. (April 18, 2016) – Earth Day may only come once a year, but Tempe Mission Palms, A Destination Hotel, celebrates it every day with its ongoing commitment to green initiatives through its Destination Earth program and associated environmental projects.   “Celebrating Earth Day is about more than being environmentally conscious one day – it’s a reminder to find ways to be better stewards of our environment year after year,” said Eric Sather, General Manager of Tempe Mission Palms Hotel. “We’ve committed ourselves to creating a new industry benchmark in conservation through a series of environmental initiatives that have both immediate and lasting benefits.”  Through its Destination Earth program, the hotel has implemented more than 100 environmental initiatives since the program’s inception in January 2008. The eco-friendly initiatives include decreasing energy and water usage, reducing waste, increasing recycling and composting, and purchasing local and organic food and beverages when possible. Additionally, a Green Meetings program helps to maximize waste diversion from meetings and conferences and increases overall environmental awareness among guests.  Along with recycling all cardboard and glass, the hotel is taking is ecological conservation to a new level. It recently planted flowering bushes and shrubs around the property, whose blooms will serve to decorate banquet tables and embellish floral arrangements. Guests will also notice fresh fragrances wafting throughout the hotel’s public spaces thanks to all-natural recyclable scent cartridges.  The hotel’s food and beverage department is taking green to heart as well, by using local purveyors whenever possible. Foods and ingredients originate from Abbey Lee Farms, Four Peaks Brewery, Crow’s Dairy, Schreiner’s Fine Sausage, and Hayden Flour Mills.  “By using local goods and services, we’re ensuring our guests not only enjoy the freshest, highest-quality ingredients, but also foods that come from sustainable and environmentally-sound sources,” said Sather.  In addition to incorporating green initiatives into daily hotel operations, Tempe Mission Palms Hotel is helping guests make their stays a little greener, too. The hotel offers a $5 food and beverage credit to guests who choose to opt out of housekeeping for shorter stays at the hotel. This ensures less laundry generation, more water conservation and fewer cleaning supplies. To complement the countless in-hotel initiatives, the hotel also participates in Maricopa County's Trip Reduction Program by offering benefits to its employees who commute to and from work. The hotel has been named one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters due to it exceeding the national standard of excellence designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Tempe, Arizona - Four chefs from International Association of Conference Centres (IACC) Canadian- and U.S.-member properties competed for the IACC-Americas Chapter Copper Skillet at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel on Friday, February 26.  This competition was stage two in the culinary competition, where two junior and two senior chefs from Canada and the United States competed to represent the Americas’ spots at the IACC Global Copper Skillet Final at the IACC-Americas Connect conference this April in New York City.    US Chef Austin Klug, restaurant line chef from the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center took the Junior Category Copper Skillet for his winning dish of filet medallions with a wild shitake mushroom demi and a Dijon panko crusted wild salmon with a creamy tomato risotto. Canadian Chef Barrington Graham, first cook St. Andrew’s Club and Conference Centre took the Senior Category Copper Skillet for his winning dish of pan seared salmon with mango relish and beef tenderloin with lemon and green onion au jus with creamy polenta and sautéed zucchini ribbon and honey mushroom.   In the competition, the chefs were presented with basic pantry items along with a “mystery basket” of proteins. They were given 30 minutes to prepare, create, and present their creations to local area judges.    “This competition highlights the best of the Americas Chapter and the chefs who competed represented amazing culinary skill,” said TJ Fimmano, IACC-Americas president. “I’m thrilled that both Canada and the United States will be represented at the Global Competition in April and look forward to seeing the elite chefs in the meetings industry compete in this favorite annual IACC event.”   For the second year in the 12-year history of the Copper Skillet competition, IACC introduced a Junior Chef category where IACC conference center chefs under the age of 26 competed in the cook-off.   The Global Copper Skillet Final will take place on Tuesday evening, April 19, during the IACC-Americas Connect membership meeting at Convene Midtown East, New York City, with the winners being named on Wednesday, April 20.   The Copper Skillet competition was introduced in 2004 to highlight the artistry and skill of the best chefs from IACC-member conference centers around the world and to honor their contributions to the shared goal of providing an outstanding conference center experience.    Attached photo L to R:  Austin Klug of The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center and Barrington Graham of St. Andrew's Club and Conference Centre.   # # # The IACC Mission Statement: To bring together the brightest industry minds to promote the best meeting venues, which deliver exceptional meeting experiences. DESTINATION HOTELS TEAMS UP WITH TESLA MOTORS

DENVER, Colo. - January 19, 2016 – Destination Hotels has teamed up with Tesla Motors to provide an increasingly desirable amenity; Tesla Destination Charging.  Tesla High Power Wall Connectors add nearly 60 miles of range per hour to Model S and Model X, charging the vehicles overnight and replicating the convenience Tesla owners are accustomed to at home. The Tesla Destination Charging Stations are offered across the Destination Hotels collection from coast to coast. Destination is the largest operator of independent hotels, resorts and residences in North America. As part of Destination Hotels’ Destination Earth program and commitment to practices and programs that lessen its carbon footprint, the brand joins a rapidly growing network of resorts in Tesla’s Destination Charging Program. Tesla partners with hotels, resorts, and restaurants around the world to offer High Power Connectors as an amenity for visitors, allowing them to charge their Teslas at locations where they want to stay for several hours. Tesla vehicles offer 270+ miles of range on a single charge so the High Power Wall Connector can easily top off the cars in just a few hours.   “Destination Hotels is always finding new ways to heighten and improve the guest experience. This collaboration, with the leading-edge technology and the forward-thinking of Tesla demonstrates our commitment to provide outstanding service and offerings,” said Jamie Sabatier, President and COO of Destination Hotels. “We now have the ability to offer guests seamless and convenient charging during their stay.”   Destination Hotels launched Destination Earth across its entire portfolio of luxury and upscale properties in 2008, an intrepid endeavor in the industry that focuses on measures to reduce energy, water and waste produced by the hotels and hotel guests. The program is monitored through on-site green teams that coordinate environmental practices throughout all hotel departments. Individual guests and corporate travelers have the opportunity to engage in environmental initiatives throughout the year.  Programming includes biking excursions around resorts and participating in property composting programs as well as the Read & Reuse program where guests can donate used books and magazines to local nonprofit organizations. The properties continually find creative ways to reduce paper given to guests, like emailing the daily newspaper instead of distributing to all guest rooms.    The Destination Hotels and other Tesla Destination Charging locations are hosted on Tesla’s interactive webpage and were recently GPS located on Model S and Model X’s navigation through a free software update sent wirelessly to the car. Tesla owners are now able to use the 17” touchscreen in their vehicles to easily plan trips and locate the property.
