The Phoenix area’s most unique holiday event lights up Tempe Town Lake with a boat parade on December 14, 2013. Started in 1999, the parade features as many as 50 festively lighted boats of all sizes, and more than 1000 luminaria light up the sidewalks and paths around the lake.
Mill Avenue in Tempe, Arizona hosts the semi-annual “Tempe Festival of the Arts,” December 6-8, 2013. This free festival ranks among the top 200 art festivals in the nation, and attracts nearly 225,000 visitors to the Mill Avenue District over the three day weekend.

A fun “spin” on a classic marathon is Arizona’s P.F. Changs Rock ‘n Roll Marathon & ½ Marathon. This year’s event takes place on Sunday, January 15th, and benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. A qualifier for the Boston Marathon, participants run while they “rock out” through three Arizona cities, with music acts on every mile of the course.
